MIDNIGHT MUSE
BY ANN PARENTI
When daylight is over and evening is winding down
The hour is after midnight, the band’s just coming ‘round
They’re jamming until daybreak to those hip jazz and siren songs
That old midnight muse taking them to places where they belong
They think their songs are private as they play until the break of day
This band of midnight players bending notes the Monk and Ellington way
Now daylight is fast approaching and the music has lost its muse
So they pack up their gear calling, “Let’s get out of here.”
But they’ll be back when the night stars appear
These jazz and blues musicians held in my heart so dear.
