Many of those who knew and loved Tony Drake gathered together on May 31, 2015 not to mourn his death but to celebrate his life as one of soul music’s most respected session and touring guitarists the world has ever known. His music with its exquisite style and signature sound can still be heard around the globe.

When asked how much dedication it took on his part to be able to play for a living, he responded, “Every inch of my soul and passion, or, if you will, 110% which includes learning your craft like anyone else would, just as a doctor, lawyer, or any other professional.” And that is how Tony Drake played his music – with his soul.

Beginning at the age of 16 when he was accepted into the Dawkins Conservatory of Music studying classical guitar, studying and playing in the 1960s to becoming a staff musician for 20th Century Fox Studios in 1970s and traveling as lead guitarist for the Checkmates to the 1980s where he was personal guitarist for actress Della Reese and played with other groups to the 1990s touring with Barry White to the present where he continued to play and enjoy music, Tony leaves behind not only his adored wife, Lisa Gay, but so many wonderful musical memories with their glorious sounding notes. And we are honored.
