Another beautiful song denoting autumn is the song “Autumn in New York.” This song is a jazz standard composed by Vernon Duke in 1934 for the Broadway musical, Thumbs Up! Which opened on December 27, 1934, performed by J. Harold Murray.

Many versions of the song have been recorded over the years by numerous musicians and singers. Jazz versions have been performed by Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Stan Kenton, Sarah Vaughan and Sheila Jordan. A duet of the song was also recorded by Louis Armstrong and Ellie Fitzgerald. Among the instrumental performances of the tune is legendary version by guitarist Tai Farlow.

See what you think about the words. Remember it?

Autumn in New York
Why does it seem so inviting?
Autumn in New York
It spells the thrill of first-knighting

Glittering crowds and shimmering clouds
In canyons of steel
They’re making me feel
I’m home

It’s autumn in New York
That brings the promise of new love
Autumn in New York
Is often mingled with pain

Dreamers with empty hands
May sigh for exotic lands
It’s autumn in New York
It’s good to live it again

Lovers that bless the dark
On benches in Central Park
It’s autumn in New York
It’s good to live it again
