Where can you go to visit so many talented friends from the Forgotten Song Music family and still not have enough time to see it all? You guessed it, Las Vegas! The art festivals and concerts and the wealth of talented performers and artists in Las Vegas are sometimes hard to phantom. We have so many talented people gathered in one city during this season of harvest and abundance that I personally wanted to say how thankful I am to be surrounded by such creativity and diversity. Autumn introduces the outdoor shows and festivals that have become tradition over the years. However, the extended heat wave this year has put a bit of a squash on wearing jackets yet, so shorts and flip flops are still the rage until Mother Nature takes a turn for the cooler side of life, please let it be soon!!! On Oct. 3 and 4, we had the ever popular Boulder City Art Festival that brings out thousands of participates each year. I was happy to see Jennifer Main come back home to share her art with us all at this year’s festival. There was also an event downtown called VIPink to help raise funds for The Susan G. Komen Foundation that was held on Oct. 8 which was very well attended. An auction was offered with many artists’ art on display, the multi-talented Beti Kristof featured a new piece from her collection that evening. Next, we had the Circus Couture fundraiser benefiting Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada and Cure 4 the Kids Foundation that The Joint at Hard Rock hosted on Oct. 9. The fabulous Niki Sands art along with so many other talented artists went up for auction that evening and the entertainment and costumes were off the charts for the show’s entertainment factor. Then on Oct. 10, Clint Holmes performed at Cabaret Jazz at the Smith Center, his show was dedicated to the music and memories of the great Sammy Davis, Jr. He got so many standing ovations during the show that I lost count. Speaking of Sammy, this month the city unveiled the newly renamed portion of Industrial Road to Sammy Davis, Jr. Drive which intersects with Frank Sinatra Dr. and Dean Martin Drive. In my mind, it was about time Sammy joined them! Next, Oct. 10 & 11, Downtown Summerlin hosted the Summerlin Festival of the Arts 20th anniversary for the first time in their new location. The talented Nicki Sands was one of the featured artists at this event too and was awarded the artwork choice for the event’s poster. The entertainment at the event was also graced with many talented folks, Clint Holmes ran out on Saturday before his show that evening to sing a few songs and then on Sunday Human Nature, Shana Tucker, Dangerous Curves and Skye Dee Miles performed on stage at the festival. Now, we move on to Oct. 15 and Forgotten Song Foundation along with several design related foundations such as NEWH, ASID, IIDA, IDS, ADAS, designMINDS did a joint event that was held at Galleria Arte Fino which features Jerry Blank’s art. The Hot Club of Las Vegas performed and it was a very magical night of art, wine, food and music all evening long. I am happy to report that live music and art is alive and well in the desert this autumn and for this I am very thankful. Can’t wait to see and hear what the rest of the month has in store for us all!
Hi,Ann –
I admire what you are doing with the “Forgotten Song Music”. Along those lines, Lena & I went to the tribute to Robert Goulet yesterday (Sunday) at the Smith Center Featuring Glenn Williams, Vince Falcone, Bob Sachs and Santo. Vera Goulet was there and was recognized. October is the month Robert passed away and this tribute did justice in honoring Robert’s career. Here is a link to the performance:

Now that we have “LinkedUp” we will follow more of what you are up to ~
Cheers,
Ken Walther
