Miroslav Drahomir Pohorelec aka DAVID POE, is an orchestrator, arranger, conductor, actor, clarinet, alto, and soprano, bass and tenor saxophone musician. He was raised in Birmingham, Alabama and Gary, Indiana. As a child prodigy, he was featured with Benny Goodman on clarinet. He was also featured as a clarinet soloist at the Montreal’s World Fair.
David has orchestrated, arranged and conducted for Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, Walt Disney Entertainment, Liberace, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Ray Price, Lionel Hampton, Jimmy Durante, Sammy Kaye Orchestra, and several others. He has performed with Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Dick Clark, Otis Redding, Bob Wills, Little Richard, Muddy Waters, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Al Hirt, Dukes of Dixieland, Asleep at the Wheel, Elvis and countless others. While living in Nashville, David was first call sub and session player for Boots Randolph, a local television personality, as well as making numerous appearances on the Grand Ole Opry as a backup musician. An accomplished jazz player on steel guitar and 5 string banjo, he also wrote the music and played on two network specials.
David has been pleasing the crowds in the Las Vegas area since 1979, and is one of the few acknowledged jazz players on the steel guitar and 5-string banjo.
I worked with Dave Poe in the late 60’s at the Flame Cafe in Minneapolis,Mn. In the Leon Boulanger Western Swing Band. He was a terrific, imaginative, hard-working musician. It’s nice to see that hasn’t changed.
