TYRIQ JOHNSON, vocalist, is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has been performing since childhood. He has performed as a solo artist in many venues in the Wisconsin area, such as African World Festival, Summerfest, Jamie’s Night Club, and Astor Street. Tyriq has opened for national acts such as the Bar-Kays, Mint Condition, and The Time. He spent two years in Minneapolis performing with the band, Sonny Boy, who produced a CD entitled, “Afro Soul.” In 1996, he managed his own band, Unknown Citizens.
Tyriq has also been on stage working with CAPITA productions in “Struttin’ Uptown” and ”Jesus Christ Superstar,” where he played the role of Jesus. He has performed with Clint Holmes in the Broadway hopeful show Jam and the Legendary Lead Singers of the Temptations. Tyriq’s smooth vocals can also be heard on several CDs, including: Joe Jordan’s “Can You Find Your Soul” and Peter Mac’s “Outside Looking in,” and Edlin Jackson’s “Give Me a Chance.” He can be heard on commercial jingles, voice-overs for the Wisconsin Tobacco Coalition and cover tunes for Hal Leonard’s Productions. He has recorded his own solo CD entitled, “Unfinished Business,” and is releasing a second CD called “Going Through Changes.”
Tyriq leads his own band called Jamestown, and is currently in the process of putting together a tribute show of “Earth, Wind & Fire.” He performs with Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns at the Palms Hotel & Casino.
