A longtime Los Angeles-based guitarist, MacDonald was born in Philadelphia and raised in Honolulu. He left the island paradise for the mainland’s music opportunities in 1982, creating a “portable” career for himself mostly on the West Coast, but also in New York and occasionally Las Vegas. He has been “flexible,” he says, accounting for a steady schedule of what often evades even the most talented and/or seasoned player, especially in jazz circles-work! Doug is now a member of the Nomadic Nocturne group of musicians celebrated by the Forgotten Song Music, Inc.

As a sideman on both coasts and some stops elsewhere, his live performances are in the hundreds. Last September, 2015, Doug had a cameo appearance performing 3 songs in the film, “Too Hip for the Room,” which premiered at the 2015 Burbank International Film Festival. Then in October, 2015, Doug released his 12th album, “Solo Plus” on the Blujazz Productions label.

Doug’s lyrical, relaxed, easy swinging manner of playing keeps him busy. This January finds him playing in Pasadena, Glendale and each Tuesday in a duo with various guests in Palm Springs. He also will be in concerts with Lenore Raphael (pianist) in Rancho Mirage, Temecula and at The Atherton in Honolulu. Going to California this month?
